Supplementary Materials for Module Two:

The above simple illustration shows the technique used to capture your eight individual exposures. Note that the camera remains straight-ahead and not pointed at the subject. If you are using an autofocus/autoexposure camera you must make sure that your camera does not refocus or recalculate shutter speed/apertures when the subject is no longer located in the center of the viewfinder.

The above illustration shows what NOT to do when taking your pictures. Remember to keep your camera facing straight ahead as in the first illustration -- not pointed toward the subject as illustrated here.

The above illustration shows how the persons face (or object), represented by an "x", moves from the right hand side of the frame, to the left side of the frame -- as you take your pictures while moving from left to right. Since we will be doing the registration of each image by hand, accuracy with registration during the photo phase is not necessary -- if the persons face (or object) is a "little" higher or lower from frame to frame it is still fine. So don't worry at all if your pictures are not perfect from one frame to another -- they do not need to be at this stage. You just need the pictures to be sharp and clear right now.

The above cut strips show how the subject will move in position -- from right to left in the frames -- for the 8 individual shots. Red line is frame mid-point for reference. You will see the same thing in the camera's viewfinder as you move from left to right. Pets are difficult subjects to do with this technique, but "Johnny" sat still with only slight head movement. He passed away last year. These shots were done using Kodak's TMAX100 Reversal Processing Kit.
